Chopper Harris tackes RCC - 6th June
Posted on Tuesday, May 12th, 2009 at 15:46

When it comes to full blooded, bone –crunching tackles few come close to Chelsea s all time hard man Ron “chopper Harris’s. Ron Harris is commonly acclaimed as the best captain ever to play for Chelsea FC. Ron notched up by far the most appearances in the history of Chelsea, with amazing 795-plus appearances for the Blues during a career lasting from 1962 to 1980.

Ron won the FA Youth Cup in 1961 won a League Cup winners' medal in 1965 and was captain when the club triumphed in the FA Cup and Cup Winners' Cup in 1970 and 71. Affectionately nicknamed “Chopper” due to the ferocity of his challenges Ron was, and remains, one of the most passionate people in football. He served under a number of great managers including Tommy Docherty and Dave Sexton and captained their teams in his own special way. Ron’s after-dinner stories vividly bring back the golden age of football, when front page stories about the game were more likely to make you laugh than cry. Chelsea legend Chopper will be Ripley CC special Guest at a fund raising dinner on June the 6th at Ripley Village hall. Tickets are £ 25.00 including a 2 course meal .Tickets are limited so hurry contact Katie Cheeseman for full details.

Welcome to The Ripley Cricket Club Website. Here you can find all about cricket in Ripley.

In the 2009 season we will be running 5 senior sides (3 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday) and 6 Academy sides ranging from under 9s up to under 17s (catering for boys and girls).

Our Saturday senior sides are all in the Fullers Surrey County League. Our Sunday 1sts are in the Surrey Trust League (pyjama cricket) with our Sunday 2nds playing social cricket throughout the season. Our Academy sides compete in the West Surrey Youth Cricket League and also play friendlies.

The 2008 season introduced a new outlook for Ripley Cricket Club while also being a year of consolidation, after several years of underperforming form the Saturday 1s and 2s. The Saturday 3rds again managed a respectable season under the watchful eye of skipper Neal Panting.

Ripley's Academy side had another good year with the under 17s again doing particularly well.
