On
23rd June 2006 Ripley Cricket Club proudly opened its brand new outdoor
net facilities. Sky Sport's Ian Ward was on hand to officially open the
new facility and there was an excellent number of club members present.
Boys from the Under 12s, Under 11s and Under 9s were also present and
eager to make use of the facility.
The
Facility
The
facilities comprising of two full length 'Verde' artificial surfaces with
infill and 18m length twin cages were installed by Groundcare/Verde Sports
at a total cost of £17,000. The project was managed from the club side
by Phil Kite who liaised closely with the contractor to ensure that the
work was completed as smoothly as possible.
Two
different surfaces were installed to provide a variation in pace and bounce.
Fundraising
The
project represents a significant investment by the club and illustrates
their commitment to further developing junior cricket at the club whilst
also providing a facility to strengthen their senior sides. Over £5,000
was raised by various activities including the sale of a framed collection
of signed photos of England captains. A loan was secured from the Surrey
Playing Field's Association fro the remainder of the cost to ensure the
facility could be installed for the 2006 season. Fundraising will continue
to ensure that the loan is paid off as early as possible.
